Some Things to Make Meditation Easier

Sometimes mediation can be hard to manage when you have a lot of things to do or when you are thinking about a current event that has happened in your life.

1.Try to make it a ritual:

Sit in the same place, at the same time during the day to make a habit out of it.

2. Find what feels comfortable to you:

If sitting cross-legged and closing your eyes is not for you, you can try sitting on your knees or even lying down (you may fall asleep though).

3. Breathe naturally:

When starting to meditate breathe naturally, don’t try to control your breath, this could distract you. As you go deeper into the meditation your breathing will get heavier naturally. Breathing naturally allows you to connect with nature and meditate with ease.

4. Don’t think about it:

If you are like me someone that when thinks about breathing suddenly forgets how to breathe, don’t do it.

If you start thinking about the fact that you are meditating and everything that you are potentially doing wrong it will make it harder for you to concentrate.

5. Acknowledge what you are feeling:

Sometimes when meditating we tend to push everything away to keep a blank space in our minds.

When doing this is almost like we are avoiding our emotions. Instead, we can acknowledge their existence and then let them go.

6. Try picturing your thoughts as objects:

When you are meditating you don’t want to think about anything. But what do you do when your mind is being flooded with thoughts and ideas?

Try picturing them as flying objects (planes, butterflies, or birds) or something that pops (bubbles, balloons). When the thought comes in, picture it as your chosen object and then either watch fly away or watch it pop and disappear.

When it comes to your view you acknowledge it and think to yourself, why is it here? Try to answer it and then watch it disappear. This helps with getting rid of unnecessary thoughts to fully enjoy the calm that meditation brings.

“Meditation practice isn’t about trying to throw ourselves away and become something better. It is about befriending who we are already.”

– Pema Chödrön

Meditation helps us take care of ourselves internally. We always need to remember that what is in our inside reflects on the outside.

That is why we grow ourselves and improve internally first to then show the best version of ourselves.
