How Do Goodbyes Force You Out Of Your Comfort Zone?

Today is going to be a short blog. I have been dealing with a lot lately, from moving across the world, a bunch of paperwork, and our topic for the day: goodbyes.

What does saying goodbye mean?

Saying goodbye to the people you love can be hard. We might even feel guilty for leaving people behind. You might feel that by leaving home you are abandoning your family. Or you are worried that your friends think you are moving away because you are not happy with them in your life. A lot of things can go through our heads when we are experiencing these kinds of emotions.

For example, As I move away from home there is so much excitement in what is coming for me. A new life, new friends, new opportunities, and new experiences. I might be so happy and really grateful that I get to do this. But at the same time, I feel an immense want to stay. I want to be with my family, friends, and current partner. But what does this mean? Why am I so mixed up?

How does this all relate to your comfort zone?

It is perfectly fine to feel all these tornado emotions that don’t allow you to make decisions easily. That feeling that you have right there, are you leaving your comfort zone. It might sound weird and you might think, “I’m just emotional cause I’m going to miss my family, this has nothing to do with my comfort zone.

What I believe is that every time we feel a strong emotion it is us leaving our comfort zone. Every time we feel sad is because something happened that is out of our comfort zone and out of our control. By no means this suggests that you shouldn’t feel your emotions. They are very important and valid and they are meant to be felt and experienced. Emotions are what allow us to communicate and experience this world in a better and healthier way.

Going back to the discussion of the comfort zone:

That is why goodbyes are so hard. Even if we have done it a thousand times, it is still something that is going to impact us. You might be used to saying goodbye to people often but that doesn’t take away the fact that you are leaving people that were part of your life (of your comfort zone).

Being used to goodbyes doesn’t mean it is going to be any easier to say goodbye to your mom as you get on a plane to another country. What I mean by all this is that a comfort zone is a constant place that we get in and out of. So there is no need to see it as such a scary concept. It is literally something that happens in the day to day life and it is something that needs to happen for you to step up and accomplish your goals. This of course includes goodbyes and closing stages of our lives as we go through them. Goodbyes are normal experiences that we will all have to go through sooner or later. It is important that you know that you are not alone.
