How to overcome your limiting beliefs?

Lesson 3: Overcoming Limiting Beliefs

What are limiting beliefs?

Limiting beliefs are set ideas that we have in our heads that tell us what we can or can’t accomplish. It is the thermostat that we set to ourselves of how far our mind and body can go and we refuse to go past that. For example, we think we are only capable of making a certain amount of money. That’s because we think that is all that we deserve. If we would open up to the idea that we deserve more, we would be able to find ways to up our income. Limiting beliefs are what mainly keeps us in our comfort zone. Limiting beliefs are set when we are young either by trauma or by what we learn throughout our childhood. They come from emotions that you did not want to feel like a child. As an adult you now avoid them.

How can we recognize them easier?

Recognizing a limiting belief can take a lot of conscious work of seeing and analyzing our every behavior. The hardest part is to bring these limiting beliefs out of the subconscious and into the conscious mind to look at them closer. To start recognizing them we need to take a look at what we want to obtain in life but we constantly fail at or find it really hard to do. One of the most common examples is in relationships. We want a loving and fulfilling relationship but subconsciously we may have the belief that we are not enough and that we don’t deserve love so we end up sabotaging our relationships. In this example what we want is love and the limiting belief is that we don’t deserve love.

Limiting beliefs are often contradicting your desires, that is why by looking at what you want you can get closer to this belief. We can also look at the emotions and actions of other people that might trigger unappreciated or extremely reactive responses. That means that they have touched a wound and there we can find more limiting beliefs. Some limiting beliefs can also be cultural. For example, in some countries, they believe that the only way to make a lot of money is to do illegal things. When in reality there are plenty of people out there that gain a lot of money helping people. This belief prevents people from going out there and actually searching for a job that pays them more for a fear that they will be looked down on.

Slowly getting rid of limiting beliefs

Beliefs are pathways we create in our heads that get activated and reinforced every time we use them. So to get rid of limiting beliefs we need to stop using them every timeless and most importantly they need to be replaced with an opposite belief. This belief will grow and be reinforced every time we give it power and take action with it.

Once we identify one limiting belief and start to heal it becomes a lot easier to start seeing the rest of our limiting beliefs. Something that can help a lot to get rid of these is to notice when you make yourself less in front of people. It starts by not accepting compliments and deflecting positive comments. Doing that reinforces limiting beliefs.

Another way you make yourself less is by not taking space or making yourself smaller to make other people feel better. It is not your responsibility how they feel about themselves. Although you may feel guilty when you stop doing this, it will soon feel much better.

How does this help in manifestation?

When we shift our beliefs it becomes easier to attract the things that we want. Not only because you are thinking positively but in the right vibration of your desires. Also that little voice inside of your head that says that you couldn’t get what you want disappears! You become more motivated and you take more aligned action toward your manifestations!
