Why do you need to read more informative books?

What are informative books?

I actually don’t know if “informative books” is the correct term to describe them cause it includes a wide range of books. For me, informative books are those that make you learn something that you didn’t know before or let you expand on a topic of your choice. Informative books are those kinds of books that just inspire you to keep reading in order to know more about the topic. These books can also be self-help books that allow you to gain further knowledge about yourself. Informative books don’t even have to be scientific books or self-help that allow you to improve yourself. An informative book could also be a historical novel that teaches you about other issues going on in the world and how people live them.

What do they teach you?

Informative books teach you about your topic of choice, but they all give you something special and that is a hunger for knowledge. You may get that feeling that you get when you finally understand something. It is normally called the “Aha” moment or Eureka moment. In psychology, it is defined “as a sudden, conscious change in a person’s representation of a stimulus, situation, event, or problem” according to intechopen. The books that create this phenomenon are important for our education and for our learning experience. Like I mentioned before they give you hunger to know more. This might make you feel smarter and make you feel fulfilled with yourself. They are going to open your mind to new perspectives and they are going to let you put yourself in the shoes of other people.

How is it different from reading school textbooks?

A very important factor that makes people not want to read informative books is that they relate them to school textbooks. This makes some people push away these types of books. We need to remember that there is a difference between school textbooks and informative books. It is that you get to choose your informative books. Which means you get to choose what you learn. You get to learn at your own pace and you can skip the chapters that you don’t wish to read. Also, informative books are not always in the format of textbooks. Some come as novels and others in the self-help book format. There are also a lot of informative graphic novels that you can read from.

Reading these books give you a lot of advantages apart from your own entrainment. You gain knowledge that probably is not taught at school and you may also gain further expertise on a subject that you are already familiar with. Book also allows you to expand your vocabulary, meaning that it gets you out of your comfort zone. Most importantly they allow you to expand your point of view. It allows you too look at problems from different perspectives and prevents you from being someone that prejudices.

Some informative books I love:

Outliers: The Story of Success

The Tipping Point: How Little Things Make A Big Difference

Persepolis

The Underground Railroad

Secondhand: Travels In The New Global Garage Sale
